Here's to You, Mr. Jasperson

The other night, Micah and I put the baby in the stroller and took a walk, down past the railroad tracks and into an older part of town. As we passed a little red brick house, we heard from behind the fence,
"you kids got tomatoes to eat?"

And then a little gray-haired man, peering through his chain-link, invited us into his backyard- full of blooming flowers, soaring cornstalks and dozens of beautiful handmade wooden birdhouses.

He chatted to us about life and work and gardening and his wife Barb, and was absolutely tickled by Maddi's great big blue eyes and sweet little smiles.

Half an hour later we left with a cardboard box full of of fresh homegrown tomatoes
and a reminder of the most important things in life.

Thanks, Mr. Jasperson.

How sweet. I'd like to live in a place where I could grow things without having to fight mother nature to make it grow!
